Audience: Any person required to splice copper cable in aerial applications 

Objectives: Upon successful completion students will be able to:
  • read and interpret aerial work order prints
  • identify cable types and counts
  • describe bonding and grounding standards
  • place an aerial cable sheath bond and aerial terminals
  • set up and perform amp and modular splicing
  • place a heat shrink rap
  • place a cable dam
  • place preform closures
  • complete a construction time sheet
  • enter a confined space

Content: Topics include:
  • aerial print symbols and cable counts
  • cable types
  • VS3 and mod splicing equipment
  • aerial terminals
  • entrance cable terminals
  • time sheet
  • pole line hardware
  • maintenance hole testing and ventilation procedures
  • cable sheath bond
  • heat shrinkcaps

Activities: Lecture, demonstration, hands-on practice  

Class Size: Up to 8 attendees 

Duration: 15 days 

Assessment: Complete work projects to demonstrate mastery of specific skills which are evaluated by the instructor, and attain a minimum of 80% on the final examination
