Prerequisites: 2-3 years splicing with basic knowledge of maintenance  

Audience: Journeyperson cable splicer 

Objectives: Upon successful completion students will be able to:
  • place and troubleshoot pressure systems in telephone plant
  • describe pressure system alarms
  • describe the use of the Sparton system

Content: Topics include:
  • graphing leaks
  • pneumatic resistance of cables
  • bypasses
  • air leaks
  • pressure route/layouts
  • transducers and how they work
  • reports generated by Sparton and how to interpret them
  • Sparton alarms

Activities: Lecture, demonstration, hands-on practice  

Class Size: Up to 8 attendees 

Duration: 5 days 

Assessment: Complete work projects to demonstrate mastery of specific skills which are evaluated by the instructor, and successfully complete one written review
