Prerequisites: Working Aloft - 080202, Telephony Overview - 092101 or equivalent, and Basic Meters - 080215  

Audience: Personnel entering into the craft discipline of Installation and Repair or drop cut crews in Construction 

Objectives: Upon successful completion students will be able to:
  • identify outside plant facilities and components
  • identify service order content
  • install a basic single line service in a single and a multi-tenant building
  • install a basic party line service
  • perform completion tests and related time write off activities
  • locate basic fault conditions
  • identify requirements for single line service prewire
  • identify interconnect/demarcation applications

Content: Topics include:
  • terminal types, cross connected facilities, pole and drop attachments
  • wire types, colour codes, and wire routing
  • telephone types and services
  • party line schemes and equipment
  • marine and trailer park procedures
  • service order procedures, write-off, time reporting and nonstandard charges
  • DC transmission and 4TEL tests, trouble guidelines and preventative maintenance
  • interconnect policies and procedures
  • BIX overview
  • prewire procedures for single, multi-tenant and commercial buildings
  • customer contact

Activities: Lecture, demonstration, hands-on projects  

Class Size: Up to 8 attendees 

Duration: 10 days 

Assessment: Complete work projects to demonstrate mastery of specific skills which are evaluated by the instructor, and successfully complete two written reviews
