Name: Communications Server 1000 Installation and Maintenance

Prerequisites: Previous telephony or technical experience.  

Audience: PBX installation and maintenance technicians 

Objectives: Upon successful completion students will be able to:
  • describe types and capacities of CS1000 systems
  • describe the architecture of Meridian 1 and CS1000 systems
  • scribe the software packages within release 6.0
  • install the Unified Communications Management environment
  • describe power and ground requirements
  • describe cabinet, network and CDF cabling and wiring
  • explain the theory of operation to block diagram level
  • power up, enter and validate all customer data via input/output device
  • install a variety of customer equipment (sets and console)
  • analyze trouble reports from the CS1000
  • perform maintenance and test routines using system diagrams
  • analyze and clear a variety of hardware and software troubles
  • demonstrate features and services

Content: Topics include:
  • CS1000 versions and related hardware
  • system hardware including: printed wiring cards, cabling, jumpering, cabinet types, DIP switch settings
  • system software including: configuration, addition of attendant console, C O trunks, TIE trunks, analogue sets, digital sets, IP sets, message center, flexible code restrictions, recorded announcements (MIRAN)
  • typical ELAN and TLAN configurations for the IP environment
  • Power over Ethernet
  • Unified Communications Management (UCM)
  • introduction to OTM and Element Manager
  • hardware and software troubleshooting practice

Activities: Lecture, individual and group exercises, hands-on terminal practice  

Class Size: Up to 8 attendees 

Duration: 10 days 

Assessment: Answer questions orally pertaining to course material, enter customer database as per work projects and demonstrate mastery of troubleshooting techniques. A comprehensive course exam will be given based on class material.  

Note: CS1000 Software Version 6.x is in use.
